No Overselling

At 1849WebHosting we DO NOT oversell our web hosting accounts! The amount of disk space and bandwidth you purchase is 100% owned by you! You do not share that amount with any other hosting accounts.

What is overselling?

Overselling is the act of selling more bandwidth and disk space than you actually have available. It is estimated that 80% to 90% of hosting providers oversell their accounts. Lately this has been a big issue in the industry as lots of new hosts have emerged that charge unrealistically low rates and cram thousands of people on a server only to have it crash constantly and drive their customers crazy.

An example of overselling would be when a company decides to become a web hosting provider and purchases 1GB of disk space and 1GB of bandwidth to sell. Let's next say that they then sell 10 customers the same hosting package of 1GB of disk space and 1GB of bandwidth. So they have now sold 10GB of disk space and 10GB of bandwidth but they only have 1GB of each. That's overselling. Oversellers continue to pile on more and more websites to the same server. The sheer number of accounts begins to overwhelm the CPU and the available memory it has. Performance begins to suffer and server down time becomes more frequent. Worse, your customers complain that they can't get to your site. It's not uncommon for oversellers to cram 500 websites onto one server!

Overselling is risky and you should not put your website at such risk. If your website is important to you and important that it be available to your customers, then you want to run away from any hosting provider who oversells!

At 1849WebHosting we maintain less than 80 accounts on our shared servers and less than 20 accounts on our VPS servers. We can do this because we have a large data center and we can spread our hosting accounts across multiple servers.

Due to their superior architecture, VPS servers will always out perform shared servers, however, our shared servers are still fast. Our VPS servers are even faster.

Remember that we bill on the 25th of each month. Even though you have to give us your credit card number when you sign up for a web hosting account, you won't get charged until the 25th of the following month. So you'll have plenty of time to check out our server performance before you pay a dime!
